Happy Monday Everyone!
Phew! What a busy weekend. We had two outstanding pet portrait sessions this weekend with three dogs. It almost feels good to be back to my regular 9-5...Ok, who am I kidding, no it doesn't. Put me back in the studio working 8-10 hours at a clip and I am happier than a pig in "you know what".
When I am working in the studio or even on location, I am overwhelmed with such a sense of freedom and joy. I am working towards my goals, not the goals of an employer. As long as I can achieve what I set out to accomplish and my clients are happy, there is no better life.
Don't get me wrong, owning your own business is tough. You are the scheduler, the note taker, the meeting host, the creative designer, the laborer, the photographer, the editor, and publisher. You are the client interface. And if you can't perform all of those tasks and perform them well, you're in trouble and stand to lose clients before you even have a chance to make them. On top of that, if you're like me, having a 9-5 job plus your dream career, the challenges are twice as difficult. Making time for everything seems impossible, until you learn to budget. Yes, you make sacrifices. Yes, you are up at late hours.
But, when you look back and realize that you can and have achieved all of these things and your clients are thrilled, the reward is SOOOO much better than the satisfaction you get from a corporate setting. The middle man is eliminated. It's just you. You set the hours, the costs, determine marketing strategies and products. You alone reap the profit of all of your hard work. There is great pride, gratification, and feelings of fulfillment that come from seeing the fruits of your labor blossom.
I fully believe that if you have the drive and determination to be successful in your own business then there is nothing stopping you from reaching that goal.
